About National Payroll Week

What is National Payroll Week?

Founded in 1996 by PayrollOrg, (formerly the American Payroll Association) National Payroll Week (NPW) returns September 6–10, 2027, during the week of Labor Day. It celebrates the connection between America’s workers and the payroll professionals whose expertise helps ensure millions of people are paid accurately and on time.

At the center of this year’s campaign is Beyond the Numbers. Every paycheck represents more than wages, deductions, and calculations. Behind those numbers are people supporting families, building careers, saving for the future, and reaching important life milestones. NPW brings those stories to life while helping employees better understand their pay and make more informed financial decisions.

Beyond the Numbers: Where Paychecks Meet People

Looking Beyond the Numbers also means recognizing the payroll professionals and broader impact behind every paycheck. Their work helps build employee trust, supports successful organizations, and contributes to communities and the economy. Through the payroll withholding system, payroll professionals also help collect and report the funds that support Social Security, Medicare, national defense, infrastructure, and other essential government programs.

That’s why NPW is about much more than payday. It’s an opportunity to celebrate the people behind the numbers, the professionals behind the paychecks, and the impact payroll makes possible every day.
